I'll defer making a decision until I read Don's book.

But to date I only have Feel The Noize and Who's Crazee Now? so the titles I will be choosing from is limited ...

I've got to go with CHARLESWORTH's - "FEEL THE NOIZE " , as he seemed to have access to the band , and it was , well , so well written .....and by a serious "muso" , who was along for the ride all the way with the band ........

But the wee Tremlett book was my bible all through the 70's ....just loved having SOMETHING ....ANYTHING !!
Great to have all those gig dates at the back ...
And so funny that some of the early venues ( KILMARDINNY STABLES) are beside my home .....

I voted for the Charlesworth book..I was torn between a the group's story or the 2 biographies..I went for the group story but Don's book would have got my next vote .

FTN for me. A well written and informative history of Slade.

FTN followed by Don's book for me, too.

The former is simply the best book about the group (as opposed to Don's being about his life) and doesn't treat us as teenage fans.

I voted for the Lise / Don epic.
I voted for what i thoiught was the best book with most information.
This did not necessarily mean the most complete run down of Slade's career history.

May change vote once I've read Don's bio, but voted for the Charlesworth title for now. It's excellent. His Deep Purple book was really good as well.

Ditto for me for precisely the same reason.

Having said that however, because I didn't actually obtain a copy of FTN until well into the naughties, and I've never had a copy of the Slade Papers, I do rate the 1974 George Tremlett biography highly as I bought that upon release.

And as a 14yo massive Slade fan, The Slade Story was the undisputed resource (albeit the only one) I had access to until my wife bought me Cum On Feel The Noize - The Story of Slade when that came out.

And whilst the Tremlett book was catering predominantly for teenagers, I think it was well researched and written and most certainly had a detailed history of Slade's touring schedule during the heyday.

Without a doubt though, Lise's biography of Don is extremely well written (ironic, given English is Lise's second language), and beautifully printed and presented. Nod's (semi-ghost written) autobiog is also well presented, but unfortunately is let down by an over cautious narrative on Nod's part where he appears to be trying to be everything to everyone.

As Chris would probably agree, Lise's English is very good. We proof read the book as it was being written and there were only a few grammatical errors. My grasp of her native language is nil.

It's true..her written and spoken English is excellent..she had a couple of problems with the Black Country dialect though.

I voted for "Feel thwe noize". But the book by Don and Lise is equally good. Both books deliver a lot of information and stories behind the scenes.
FTN ended 1984 , so an update would be great.

I go for Feel the noize by Chris Charlesworth. I will not count the personal Bios in,as they gave no neutral view on the Band. Before Feel the noize,Tremletts Book was the only one available here in Germany via Bravo Books. But my Bible for years was The Sölade Papers...I found it by accident in 1976 in a Music Store in a neighbour city..I was teher with my Bassist,we wanted to buy some strings or cables or stuff...and I totally flipped when I saw it in the shelf...I cannot tell how often I read it...must`ve been 1.000.000 times.

I voted for Dons' book but I have only read the three "autobiographies", living down under so much is missed out.

I will take a note of those books and see if I can find any of them, fingers crossed.
