Darrell Easlea book

Post by mark lion »

Was watching TV top selling hits of 1972 tonight on channel 5.

One of the "experts" was Darrell Easlea. Text under his name said he wrote a Slade book called WHTS.
I know he was employed to write a book, but did not know he had completed it.

It is listed as out of stock on Amazon and Waterstones have to order it in.
Does anyone own it, or seen it?

The producers of that program were obviously thinking ahead Mark, because to the best of my knowledge Easlea's book has not yet been finished - let alone published. From your account though, at least it seems promising that it is actually coming!

Book Depository have the publication date down as 22 September 2022.

I have spoken to Daryl on a regular basis since I was interviewed for his book a couple of years ago . He told me last week that they hope to have it published for sometime around the 50th anniversary of "MWACN"

Yup, he's the author of the book, but it's some way off yet. He's still finding people to talk to.

It will very likely be a better book if he refrains from going directly to the source/s and opts to go with (credible) insider options ...

Slade's old PR John Halsall popped up on Facebook this week, adding to a topic of mine, saying we hadn't approached him. He's one of those backroom names that you heard once every now and again. It's fair to say that he had lots of opportunities to come forward and make himself known to us before the book came out, but never mind. Daryl is now in conversation with him. Hopefully he will have some useful snippets of info that aren't out there.

That's good to hear Ian. Daryl's biography of Slade will very likely be the final written word on the band's legacy. We can only hope that he serves the band well while ensuring the outcome isn't simply a rehash of what has been written before.

Below is a link to Alan O'Duffy's website. Alan engineered a lot of Slade's 1970s material at Olympic. His phone number and email address are advised on his page. Please feel free to forward the link to Daryl Easlea as I'm sure Alan would be a good (and fresh) person for him to chat with.

Darryl tends to dig deep and writes in a way that almost over-faces the reader with a wealth of day to day information. I doubt that ANY Slade fan will be disappointed by his in-depth research. He also has a number of great places to look for information. Not all of the group have agreed to speak to him, which is a pity, but then again it is their perfectly valid choice not be be bothered. Daryl has the opportunity to be able to write about the very end of Slade.

This book by him is superb.

This one was an essential purchase for me, too.
