Photos are good and your anecdotes and insights enhance the presentation.
The common thread I saw in most of the pictures is how hard the band worked; they were almost always drenched in sweat. Whether playing a chicken in the basket or a concert hall they clearly gave it their all. Well done.
God I wish I could walk into one of those venues again and have a drink and rock out , those gigs we’re so wild , loud and fast
The one residing memory was how there they were right smack bang in yer face ultra , ultra , ultra HD
My book arrived yesterday, flicking through the pages of photos reminded me of those great nights watching this incredible band. I went to all the Music Machine gigs covered in this period and dragged my mates along to experience all things Slade. I had followed the band throughout the 70's, my first gig was at Bristol Colston Hall - June 1973, I was 14 and have been a fan ever since. I must have been to nearly 20 Slade gigs.
I can remember standing on the balcony of the first Music Machine gig right next to that spotlight in the photo on page 77. Like you say what was brilliant about this period is the band often packed out the venues which made the experience even better. It was always deafeningly loud, sweaty, beyond entertaining and got you thinking 'where are they playing next'. . Great memories.
This book is without doubt a must for all fans of this amazing band.
Ian, This website and both books are fantastic - thanks for putting them all together.

A magical time machine back to a mad beautiful time when we all had front row access to our heroes ....
It was fill yer boots !!
Meet em
Greet em
Sing with em
Tell them you love em
Have a beer with em
Then they were off back to stardom ...
And they were gone
Excellent collection Ian, I was at the Blighty's Farnworth gig, we all had suits and ties on to get in [except my sister!] I never thought of taking a camera in those days for fear of being thrown out by the bouncers! Well done for the persistence over those years
Fantastic book to add to my memories. My first slade concert was manchester free trade hall in 1977 and saw them several times including Birkenhead hamilton club, Llandudno pier pavillion soon after the Reading festival and the last uk concert at the Royal Court Liverpool. I have photo's somewhere of them at Birkenhead including the support act ... Saxon !
I know what you mean, but, making the pages glossy would have put the price up significantly.
I selected the 'premium lustre' paper at an extra cost from the bog standard paper, as it's a good standard.
I don't like the way Amazon pricing works. They take 40% of the book cost. They charge £10+ to print each book and that comes out of the writer's share. The charge for each additional page would surprise you, too. The maths don't really work too well. But, on the other hand, it was the way to get it published. If iI had had to have books printed in batches of 100 and then post them out, it would have worked out more expensive to buyers.
I didn't want to deal with any customer service stuff, lost books - Amazon do all of that and send me a tax document etc.
It's convenient, if not very lucrative at all.
Greetings Mugwumps; I'm late to the party, I got my copy 3 days ago. I'm a veteren SLADE fan(atic), and this book brings to mind the gig at THE ROYALTY BALLROOM in APRIL 1978. My brother, JOHN and I attended this gig, driving down from HARPENDEN in an old rusty AUSTIN 1300 countryman. We stayed for the entire show, which was epic. NODDY introduced "GIVE US A GOAL" as "Our latest number one hit single", and we participated in the song with our football referee whistles, which we had to smuggle into the show. When we left the show we discovered that the car park was all locked up, and we had to find a security guard to let us out. I was 19 & JOHN was 16 at the time. This book brings back those memories, and is an excellent companion to "THE NOIZE". It has started a discussion with my mate ANDREW from AYLESBURY, because he frequented the FRIARS club and we noted, (from the gig lists in this book) that SLADE played there in JANUARY 1981, a show both of us would have enjoyed. I'm posting on your website, but get MUCH more pleasure from BOOKS!!! Excellent work : live the dream & keep on rockin'" SKELLY.
