Re: THE NOIZE - SECOND EDITION news and reviews
Er . . . that's me, above, guys & gals.
Back then I knew nowt about this fantastic forum, all I knew is that THE NOIZE 1st edition led me to a new lease of SLADE devotion & fanaticism in my life.
So, now, thanks to "you lot" out there, Ian Edmundson and Chris Selby, I own a record player for the first time in over 40 years, and am collecting vinyl (spattered & unspattered)albums and 12 inch E.P.'s centred mainly around SLADE product of course.
I meant every word of that review, and the new 2nd edition hardback is, as I've said elsewhere, even BETTER!
If y'ain't gottit, yow need t' gettit!

To tell the truth... I hate Basecaps with passion! Why is anybody wearing them??? They make everybody looking the same...no Style! No personal dress code...just like Army Helmets!...UGH!

Thanks for that! I have`nt had a look at the 1st edit...as it was great as well ath the time...I wanna enjoy the recent one a s a totally stand alone!
And do me a favour fellas...don`t wear these caps...pleeze...they make everybody look silly...even Jim!

Jim doesn't want to be recognised on the street so specs and cap help immensely.

We sat in a corner of the pub out of the way . Nobody hassled us and when we left we were just 3 blokes walking to our cars. All good fun .

This review is for the 2021 hard cover edition.
Well, what's the word am looking for? Think it might be 'WOW.' This is now undoubtedly the best book about Slade out there. Although listed as a Discography it is far more than that. If you are a Slade fan (and if you're reading this you must be) then it's most definitely a must.
The original softback version was published in January 2019 and ran for 205 pages and was a labour of love. I left a positive reviews for same and encouraged Slade fans to buy it. Another Convention Special signed copy edition was produced with a limited run of 100 copies and could only be purchased at the Slade Fans Convention 19th October 2019 and extended the pages run to 221. This was a slightly revamped and an improvement on the first edition. And now we have the new polished super improved hard back version. Now extended to a mammoth 300 pages. This is the bells and whistle tome. The must have version.
The book is researched and written by Ian Edmundson and Chris Selby. Starting in the early 1960's with mini biographies of the band through the formation of The Vendors, The 'N Betweens, Steve Brett and the Mavericks, Ambrose Slade and finally Slade. Far more than just a Discography it reads more like a full biography. Each year is studied, collated and includes early history decisions, record releases, gigs, management, press publicity, clippings and much more. Illustrated by some brilliant early pictures not only of the releases but also the band members.
This takes the reader not only through Slade's mighty career but also what came after. Slade 2 with Dave and Don, Don Powell's Occasional Flames, The Don Powell Band, QSP, Jim Lea's Solo works on CD, Vinyl and live performances, Noddy's acting, advertising, books and Hill's continuing versions of Slade with its ever changing line ups.
All releases are mentioned, albums, singles, books, Videos and DVD'S and includes overseas releases.
The nice thing is the authors pull no punches and tell it like it is/was. Often asking such questions like why certain B Sides were sometimes superior to the A Side equivalents. So rather than try to claim everything Slade did was awesome, sometimes it wasn't. Strange career decisions, unusual single choices and what in hindsight might or could have been better.
So what's the difference between earlier editions? It is now it's all updated. New releases from Salvo and BMG are included, cover versions, session work with other bands, charity events etc. The massive page increase and the nice touch of publishing the names of the magic 500 or so fans (of those still with us) who stuck with the band through the thick and thin (including yours truly). And of course it's now in hard back. Making this an even more polished showcase of one of the best British bands ever. At the time of writing even Slade Bassist, Violinist, Keyboard player and all round nice guy Jim Lea was impressed with the book.
So should you buy it. YES YES YES. Now you not only can FEEL the Noize, you can read the NOIZE too. Keep on Rocking!

Re: THE NOIZE - SECOND EDITION news and reviews
Hi Ian of Admin, and all you other SLADE fanz;
I've attempted to update my review, (from the one shown on page 8 above), to cover the second edition hardback.
Now, for reasons beyond my understanding, AMAZON often reject my reviews.
For example, I reviewed two books by author SPIKE WEBB, they accepted one but rejected the other - NO EXPLANATION.
My author mate, Jay-Boy, sez it's coz I'm also a published author (so under closer scrutiny), know some of the artists / authors I review personally, (they don't like that), and may use words or phrases that they interpret as a publicist "pushing" the product for some kinda material gain. Really?
Bottom line, AMAZON are a bunch of snivelling, wretched gits who I only purchase from out of dire need, where all other scources, (e.g. proper shops, HMV or E-Bay at a push), can't supply me!
Jus' got delivered, original SLADE ALIVE! 45th vinyl anniversary edition, so cum round coz me & Missus Skelly are a-r'r'r'r'r'rockin', an' a-r'r'r'r'r'rollin' t'nite!

"REVEAL!!!" - THE NOIZE - SECOND EDITION PAPERBACK COVER
P - O - L - Y - D - O - R as SkellyTheBoy would say....
The paperback cover revealed exclusively here today.
Comments more than welcome.
Facebook gets it tomorrow.
It is being published early, so that hopefully people can get it for Christmas.
The hardbacks are in a long printing queue. Amazon don't appear to be coping with the number of books now being offered as hardbacks.

Re: THE NOIZE - SECOND EDITION news and reviews
Question ?
The missus ordered the hardback at £25 last week for me birthday next week and now it's stating delivery on Jan 13, has the original print run sold out ?
If so I get her to pay the £32 for the paperback and actually have a present to open on me birthday

Confushias says why is paperback more expensive than hardback. Amazon work in strange ways.
Re: THE NOIZE - SECOND EDITION news and reviews
Amazon have not got round to lowering the paperback price yet.SEUBY wrote: November 24th, 2021, 1:35 pm Confushias says why is paperback more expensive than hardback. Amazon work in strange ways.
Hopefully the paperback price will be put in line any time now.
Amazon do it themselves, not at our request.
We have had to put the paperback out early, because people not being able to get the book for Christmas is OBVIOUSLY an absolute and total joke.
The hardback print run has not sold out - the book is 'print on demand', so as long as we leave it available (and we have no plans to remove it - both hardback and paperback versions are there to stay now), people will be able to order it.DirtyJoker wrote: November 24th, 2021, 11:56 am Question ? I ordered the paperback copies for the members of Slade last night and they will arrive at their homes on the 1st or 2nd of December.
The ridiculous delivery delay on the hardbacks is pretty annoying for Chris and myself.
Hardbacks are pretty much a new thing for Amazon (only offered since June this year, or thereabouts).
More authors are opting to sell hardbacks and now the factory can't keep up.
It is totally ludicrous that they didn't foresee this surge in demand. And that they can't cope with it.
This will settle down over time as they increase the printing capability, but it is not funny at the moment.
If we had had any idea this was going to happen, we would have simply gone with the paperback second edition first, leaving the hardback for next year.

Re: THE NOIZE - SECOND EDITION news and reviews
Luckily we , or at least I haven't , haven't had too much negative about about the price or the delivery dates . The odd niggle but once it's explained it's all down to Amazon everyone seems to understand. We have to buy copies of the book ourselves . The hardback cost me £40. I had to complain and they cut me a deal but Ian and I are in the same boat as everyone else. No doubt somewhere in the wonderful world of Slade fandom someone is slagging both us and the book off. But as yet no one has the bollox to tell us to our face.(c) small rant.
