Amazon UK are now offering next day (Prime) on the paperback.
The price needs to come down into line with the hardback - like I say, I imagine that will happen shortly.

The current paperback full price allows a royalty of £5.00 between Chris and myself per book, in case you thought Chris and myself were out looking at buying new yachts to cruise and race each other around the Med....

Hey you guys,. THAT is FAN-P-O-L-Y-TASTIC!
What a great cover; especially the printed word bit round the edge of the POLYDOR "record label".
I tried updating the old review I did about edition 1, and it has not been approved, "and I don't know why, anymore, oh no".

RIGHT, my dander is up, my ire is irked & I'm breathing fire;

SLADESTERS :- WILL YOU PLEEZE SHUT-THE-F**K-UP WHINGING ABOUT THE COST OF THIS ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL BOOK.
I PAID £40.00 (FORTY POUNDS) FOR MINE, WHICH I CONSIDER A BARGAIN.
IT'S A SELF-PUBLISHED. LIMITED NUMBERS TREASURE TROVE FOR REAL, (AUTHERS WORD, NOT MINE), SLADE FANS.
IT'S QUALITY AND CONTENT IS NOTHING SHORT OF ASTONISHING.
TRUST ME, ( I SELF-PUBLISHED A BOOK MYSELF ), IF YOU SELL ENOUGH FOR A BURGER & PINT NITE AT A WHETHERSPOONS EVERY COUPLE OF WEEKS YOU'RE DOING VERY WELL!
NONE OF US PUBLISHED AUTHORS, (ME, MY MATE JASON GREENFIELD, IAN OR CHRIS) WILL NEVER MAKE EVEN A MEAGRE LIVING FROM OUR BOOKS.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IAN & CHRIS FOR THE UNSELFISH & UNFLINCHING LABOUR OF LOVE THAT THEY PUT INTO THIS BOOK. THESE GUYS ARE NOW AMONG MY LIST OF REAL WORLD HEROES.
SLADE ARE THE BEST, THIS BOOK IS THE BEST.
I HAVE PAID MUCH MORE FOR RARE ROCK BOOKS, SOME ARE NO WHERE NEAR THE EXQUISITE QUALITY OF "THE NOIZE".

I would much rather have it that they were cheaper, myself.
But unless we didn't take any royalty for the work you see in the book, then the price you saw before discounts is what it is.
As Skelly said, when you see the book, you know it's good value for the money.
When a vinyl LP can cost you £30, or a packet of cigarettes is £10 or more, that puts the book price into perspective.

No publisher would want the book.... probably. So we did it ourselves via Amazon.

I've explained the financials previously.
To publish via Amazon you commit to a 60/40 split. Amazon automatically take the 40% cut as publishers.
That's the deal with the devil in self publishing...
The more pages in your book, the more expensive it is to print. This is a 300 page book. As we added pages, we watched the price go up.
But what do you do? Do you skimp on content, or make it THE BOOK that all of the fans would love?
I personally didn't want to leave some things out. I wanted THAT BOOK on my shelf.
Hopefully I got it.

The paperback printing cost of £14.20 which comes out of our 60% gives a royalty of £5.
£2.50 each to Chris and myself.

The hardback is even more expensive to print.
£17.50 which comes out of our 60% The royalty at £40 is £6.50 - £3.25 each to Chris and myself.

Fortunately, Amazon saw fit to cut the hardback price for a period. How long that will last, I don't know.
Whether they will also discount the paperback i don't know. I hope so.

No need to justify cost of The Noize. You and Chris have invested countless hours creating and producing an invaluable reference guide for hardcore Slade fans at a fair price and you are to be commended. It wasn't done for money; it was a labor of love and I, for one, greatly appreciate your respective efforts.

So, whingers, be off with you & BUY it, or I'll send ANVIL to your houses.

I don't think there will be another edition, but we may just change the cover at some point and not make a fuss of having done so.

As I have said, I don't think there will ever be another edition of the book.
Changing the cover is an interesting idea and I did a very nice experimental Barn front cover this morning.

I'm going to look at their other label and sleeve designs to see what's do-able as quick short-run unannounced changes to the sleeve.
A play on the Cheapskate and Six of the best labels would be fun to do, but the Polydor cover will be the main one for the paperback.
I'm not going to change the hardback cover. I'm really proud of that.

Am confused (must buy the book!). When did Slade start/stop releasing on Barn? That's the label I think of when Slade are mentioned. Polydor makes me think of Rainbow (and Purple post-'84), and baked beans (the colour). Know this was dealt with in Chris Charlesworth's book, but I lost it. :D

Anyway, congratulations. It looks great. *like

It's chocker-block with brilliant stuff, a veritable meal.
In terms of a good full English breakfast, the F-O-N-T-A-N-A fronted 2nd edition is a GUTBUSTER!

If you get this incredible book you can literally overload & get fat on SLADE :- Like Me!

If you own a copy of the book have you discovered something that you didn't know before ? Doesn't have to be earth shattering , just something that made you think or go back to look at an album sleeve of label or a snippet of information . A simple yes or no will suffice.

I'll buy it and get Lea-Holdered,
So's not to get cold-shouldered;
I'll Dave and Don my best boater,
In order to get my Slade quota.

Barns are good for crop-storing,
And dancing, drinking and jawing,
The subject at hand being Slade,
And all the fine records they made.

Yes, there are updated insights & quotes from those NOIZY SLADE BOYZ, plus more images & details of rare / foreign releases, most of this new to me.
The feature about KAREN MCKEE was quite a revelation too, a typical SLADE girrrl! I actually dated one that looked just like that, spooky!
